When Personal Trainers Feel Rotten This Is What They Do

No matter how much you love your job or love your clients; do you have days when you feel flat, tired, drained even exhausted and wonder how you're ever going to inspire anyone?

You're not alone.

Clients and gym members judge us by the way we look, act, speak and the energy we project. But just because we live such a fantastic lifestyle, we're definitely not immune to daily pressures like deadlines and other energy sucking activities or even people.

Here's a list of 14 simple things you can try if you need a fast pick up. NB. Don't try all of them at once otherwise you'll end up using all of your energy to get more energy!

1. Grab Your MP3 Player And Go For A Walk Outside:

Drop the paperwork, forget about your next client for 20 minutes and head outside. Play your favorite music, put a pep in your step, take some deep breaths and clear your head.

2. Drink Water, Not Energy Drinks:

Instead of reaching for a Red Bull, freshen up your water bottle and have an apple instead.

3. Change Your Socks And Shirt:

Sounds crazy but changing into fresh clothes has an immediate effect on your energy levels. Maybe it has something to do with feeling better about yourself in clean gear or that you've taken two minutes to sit down and put on socks and stopped thinking about other things; it works so give it a try, especially if you've been on your feet for a while.

4. Swallow A B Vitamin And Chew On A Vitamin C:

Stress and anxiety are two of the biggest energy drainers and that usually arrives just when you need your energy the most. Replace or top up your B and C levels with some water and you should be good to go.

5. Stand Up, Stretch And Breath:

Stand up, close your eyes and take three long slow deep breaths.

6. Animals Are Amazing For Re energizing:

Is it just me, or have you ever been in a mall and stopped by the pet store and watched the puppies or kittens for 5 minutes? Animals give out positive energy no matter what time of day, even when they're sleeping they make you feel good!

7. Eat Something Healthy:

Don't use low energy levels as an excuse not to eat a healthy meal. If you opt for something high in sugar or 'bad fats', within an hour you'll be worse off than you are now.

8. Go Find Someone That Has A Ton Of Energy:

That may normally be you, but go for a walk around the gym and find a member or colleague that's bouncing off the walls. Have a laugh and feel refreshed.

9. Cull Your 'To Do' List:

Knowing that you have a massive list of things to do can be just as draining as actually doing them. If you're just not in the mood, take a look at it and prioritize tasks. If something isn't urgent, push it forward for tomorrow or delegate it. Taking that list from 20 to 5 things will make you feel better.

10. Put A Positive Spin On Why You Feel Drained:

Maybe you're tired because you had a late night socialising, yes you might feel flat, but think about how awesome the night was. Or maybe you're drained because you're so busy with work, appreciate that all your hard work is paying off and that your career is booming.

11. Tidy Your Work Space:

While this involves some energy, it's actually quite invigorating, especially when you're finished and your world is more organised, it's a great feeling to step back and look at a clean desk.

12. Aromatherapy:

You may or may not have it at hand, but try sniffing lavender or citrus (orange, lemon). Both of these scents have been tested to improve alertness.

13. Plan A Vacation:

Anywhere you want to go? Could be in 12 months time, but jump online or go through brochures. Having something to look forward to is a great way to increase vitality.

14. Remember Your Vision:

Close your eyes and visualise why you began this whole fitness career journey. What was in it for you, what was it that you wanted to achieve for YOU? Stop thinking about your clients goals for five minutes and revisit your own dreams.

Have a great day!

  1. Sometimes firing an annoying or unreliable client will cheer you up, too :)

  2. I do the eat something healthy thing. Usually I'm just tired because I booked too many back to back sessions & my blood sugar dropped. Or I just flat out need a good night's sleep. Those 5am-ers can be tough!
