Personal Training Is Hard Work

Do your clients know how much work you really do?

Do they assume they just arrive at the gym or park and you just throw together a few random activities for them to do? Do your clients try and haggle how much they believe they should be paying you? Do you believe your clients give you the respect that you deserve as a fitness professional? If not, this is the article I want you to make them sit down and read...

Personal training is hard work; correction, REALLY hard work. A successful trainer spends around two hours researching and preparing for every hour that they're actually training clients.

We spend our down time recording and analyzing workouts and results in order to help our clients better achieve their goals faster and safer.

No two workouts are the same. There isn't a text book or a Personal Training For Dummies (well there is, but not in the context I'm describing) that has scripted workouts to suit every individuals goals and physical condition.

Each and every program, workout, piece of health and fitness advice and encouragement is carefully choreographed specific to each and every clients goals based on years of fitness experience.
  • We get up at 5 every morning and get home after all the good television shows have finished.
  • We eat 5-6 meals a day from a cooler bag.
  • We are unable to have a bad day.
  • We are expected to be psychologists, nutritionists, family councilors, physiotherapists, fashion consultants and a host of other better paying professions.
  • We are openly judged by our appearance daily.
  • We deal with lazy, unmotivated, whining clients who lie to us constantly about what they've really been eating and doing the other 165 hours a week that they're not training with us.
Personal training is hard work; hard, thankless, amazingly satisfying work and we wouldn't have it any other way.
